Flood

The waves crash into your house
Breaking in through the window,
Soaking everything you own.

You kneel on your bed
Holding onto damp sheets
Crying out for dear life,
Hoping that someone will hear you.

The water rises to touch your chandelier
And your legs wade in the freezing water
With your head almost touching the ceiling.

You dive toward the nearest opening;
The back door,
Leading you to your underwater garden.

You've survived with oxygen in your lungs,
A housewreck next to you
And your own personal kelp plantation
Beneath your feet.
